What is humanity? The dictionary would say it's the 'state of being human', but that helps me understand nothing more than I knew before I looked up the meaning of the word.
I'm in the final preparations for an exhibition opening on Friday, in which two photographers, a group of young woman and I are all showing imagery, all of which helps describe what it is to be human in my opinion. We are all looking at life's difficulties and issues, as well as celebrating all of our diversity through the medium of photography. Within my project 'Everyone', I spoke to young women about issues and obstacles they have had in their lives, whether they be developmental, physical, mental or cultural, and how they've each overcome these issues, how they've all grown through their journeys. i feel this shows me what the state of being human is. Our ability to grow, overcome obstacles and help others do so.
The exhibition is to be held at Hartlepool Art Gallery and is open from the 6th of September till the 8th of November.
Through a competition I'm helping CoinAPhoto run, I was able to see what others think 'humanity' means, and how they would show it in a single image. The results were unbelievably heart-warming. We've managed to get it down to ten finalists, but now we'd like you to help choose the winner, and show us what you think 'humanity' means! (before the 10.9.14)
